Friday, November 11th, I visited
Plimoth Plantation for the first time. Located on Plymouth's historic waterfront, the permanent exhibits tell the story of two distinct cultures - English and Native. You lead yourself on a self-guided tour through the different areas of the museum.
Walking through the
Wampanoag Homesite you'll find Native People - either Wampanoag or other Native Nations - dressed in historically accurate clothing. These people will speak to you from a modern perspective as they are not role players. You're encouraged to ask as many questions as you can, but if you're shy like me you're more than welcome to just look around and listen in on anything they're sharing with groups.
Upon entering the 17th Century English Village, you'll find role players portraying actual residents of Plymouth Colony. These people are very good about not breaking character when you mention modern day things. One man, whose name I did not catch, asked my boyfriend what his trade was. I wanted to play along and say he was a sword smith, as we're both nerds who play(ed) World of Warcraft, but I held back. I believe his mom is the one who finally mentioned that he is a computer programmer. To which the man responded, "Ah, I believe in England we handle much pewter!" That got a good chuckle out of me. In the village you'll find houses furnished with reproductions of the types of objects Pilgrims owned. You'll also see various animals, such as chickens, cows, and goats.
Now for the pictures!

Wetu - Wampanoag word for house. This wetu was in the process of being built but you were welcome to come inside and watch one of the Natives hammer away at some wood pieces. Another man helped explain to visitors a little bit more about the wetu and how they were built. |

Awesome poses in front of an awesome view. Taking the trail towards the craft house and the English Village. |

Having a seat on a beautifully crafted bench which you'll find all along the paths. |

A somewhat blurry photo of a Pilgrim's kitchen. |
|
A my-size bed, haha. You'll find these small sized beds in all of the houses in the English Village. There were a few houses with larger beds but I didn't get a photo as there were far too many people and I was a bit cranky. |
|
One of the animals in the village. If you can find long grass, you can pick it up and hand feed these cows. They loved it! |

A garden outside of one of the houses. |

This man rambled on about a story for a solid 30 minutes before we could break away to see the rest of the village. I'm very impressed with the role players ability to keep character the entire time they are talking to the museum visitors. |

Goats, hanging out and chomping on grass. |

The pottery section of the craft house. All of these handmade items are sold in the shops in the museum. |

My souvenirs! Of course I picked up an owl which is made of strands of animal fur. Shawno found the last tiny bear carving. His mom bought me a jar of apple butter. (Thanks Momma Nancy!) And I bought myself a Plimoth Plantation magnet for my fridge. I love my souvenir magnets. :D |

This was the last of two shirts in this style. I originally wanted an adult medium, but my only options were small and x-large. My boyfriend said the shirt looked like it would fit since I've lost 30+ lbs. Glad I picked it up! |
Thanksgiving is 12 days away! I am going to be baking up a batch of pumpkin cookies to bring to dinner at Shawno's aunts house. But I also want to try making some pumpkin bread. I have yet to try my hand at that!
I know I haven't been posting as often as I should be. I've been working 5 days a week and getting in as many hours as I can. This season has been a bit different for me as I've taken on a few extra responsibilities than I have had in past years. I am liking it though!
A had a few post ideas from about a month ago that I put on hold for when I have more free time. Hopefully I'll find time to type them all and just queue them over a few weeks time.
I'd like to announce the winner of the My Memories Giveaway.
The winner is Katie!
Congratulations!
